Making Desktop Icon Text Background Transparent

I really hate it when I use a Windows XP machine, and I go to the desktop only to see it cluttered with odd blue (or that weird, puke green) rectangles … I wonder to myself “What the heck is going on!?” and curse.

Every time I see this, before I can continue and operate on the machine, I have to fix this, I guess you could say it’s a real big pet peeve of mine. I’m sure it irks someone else out there, too, so here is how to make the background of the desktop icon text transparent once again.

Go to your Control Panel, and select System Properties.

Select the Advanced tab, and under the Performance section, click on Settings.

Enable the “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop” option, and apply the new settings, and you’re good to go!
